diy aquaponics florida | Aquaponics Tips Shelter for Seedling or Cutting

diy aquaponics florida

This is a simple way to temporarily protect a new seedling or cutting from the elements. Use another pot to cover them, this way strong sunlight or heavy rain will not damage the plants. Slot in the pots gives some sunlight to get the seedling or cutting going while maintaining air circulation.

Pots are secured by using clips to ensure they are not blown away or toppled by heavy rain.

It is best to use hanging pots since they already has holes for wire attachment. Otherwise you will need to secure it either by making holes or different type of clips.

All done, good for a few week depending on type of plants that you grow in the pots.

diy tabletop aquaponics | Strawberry Runner Cutting

diy tabletop aquaponics

One of the runner is not long enough to be potted separately, the stolon is too short. There are few youtube videos showing propagating strawberry by cutting these runners and pot them separately.
In temperate region its may be cooler than what we have here, so just give it a shot and see whether it will survive the planting.
It has a tiny bit of root, and I am banking on this to get it through.
Using smaller 3" pot and LECA since I am doing it Aquaponics way.
Pot is low down to ensure the roots touch water, once it survive and has grown more root I will lift the pot higher and eventually use the bigger slotted pot for final grow.

diy aquaponics toteponics

Make a quick trip to Romatech Agro earlier today to get some Agriculture care product, what I am looking for most is Chelated Iron (Fe) to supplement my aquaponics. Unfortunately they dont stock Fe, but since I am there might as well get some other stuff that is useful for my Aquaponics.
Romatech Agro is a small cozy start up, that deal mostly on fertigation items ranging from pumps, tubes to supplement that needed to start a fertigation setup. They also carry few starter kit from Cili Bangi that specialize in fertigation cili plants.
I pick up few items, Calcium Boron, Seaweed Extract and Neem oil to supplement my Aquaponics plants. Calcium for plant tissue and fruit deformities, Seaweed Extract for nutrient and Neem Oil to get rid of pest.

diy aquaponics system | The Pump Is Dead

diy aquaponics system

On of my pump that running the three barrel CRAFTS set just operate unreliably, it occasionally died and require so knocking to get it going. Remove the pump from the tank and upon close inspection found that the rotor shaft has worn a lot.
Closer look that what the rotor shaft looks like below.
Bought a replacement, same rating of 2000 Liter/hour and this time I ensure that the rotor shaft is made of ceramic.
This Astro 2000 pump set me back RM 40.00, that about USD13.00. I had use this make before and on average it lasted about 3 years.
I would recommend ceramic shaft pump if you can find it, the steel shaft just cant last that long.
