Making this simple device to measure water inflow to growbed. This is helpful since I can then document siphon water operating range. which now is not so accurately done.

I use the Bettas BT 6000 pump as the water source and a mechanical flow rate gauge utilizing float type weight to shows water flow rate.

Two stop cock use, one as diverter and the other just to provide restriction just incase the diversion is not enough.

WARNING? Worm Farm is Out?
I have had my Worm farm on the balcony for just over a year, its been nice to take out the Veg leftovers and putting them in the bin and letting the red worms do their thing.
Although I dont actually have enough space to put the newly generated soil, it just seamed like a key part of my mini balcony eco farm system.
But now I cant wait to get rid of it..... and others take WARNING....
I have had an on going health issue for about 3 months, now im a vegetarian and eat pretty healthy dont smoke and keep reasonably fit, I kept getting a really bad cough followed by itch eyes and flu symptoms, it came way to often and started to get concerned so a trip to the Doctors for the usual anti viral meds, but nothing worked, this followed by weekly blood test, of which all were clear.
After some detective work at home I realized I was getting sick on a Monday, so process of elimination i narrowed down to chores I did on a Monday, and taking them weekly scrapes out to the worm bin was an unlikely cause, but guess what, seams like its quiet common to get "Compost Lungs" a bacteria spore that causes my exact symptoms and is quiet common also with Mushroom growers.

So if you have been suffering a constant cough, it may be your compost bin, this can be cured by wearing a dust mask when you attend it but I have decided to take mine out of the equation, and get well again.

I had been using the Astro pump from the start of my Aquaponics hobby. Its time to look for some other brand that may be better suited for my usage. This Sunsun HJ 1100 looks interesting enough for me to give it a try.

The Astro AS1000 rated 14 watt ,1000 liter/hr at 0m and max head is 1 meter.

Sunsun HJ 1100 rated 20 watt 900 liter/hr at 0m and max head is 1.5 meter. The Sunsun is cheaper by RM5.00 as compared to the AS1000.

Rating for the HJ 1100

On my gutter growbed system I need more water inflow but try to maintain a pump that is small and relatively low power. So at 20 watt is the max Ill do for two 15 mm siphon at 24 inches water head.

The HJ 1100 comes with various fittings for water outlet coupling and two types of feet.

I use the rubber bung type of feet, no need of the suction type which wont really hold but just makes it difficult if you want to remove the pump from the tank.

Same like the HJ 600 that I purchased for the Ornamental set it has a variable water output by means of this blue dial that in this installation I leave it to the max.

Water inlet to gutter increase as compared to the AS 1000 delivery, this increase in water in-flow makes it necessary to retune the siphon since it had exceeds the normal operating range of a standard installation.

Whether this new pump is better than AS1000, only after a prolong usage will tell. Both pump are cheap at about USD 10.00  each.

I wanted to try a new experiment making planter for seedlings using egg shells.

First I saved my breakfast eggs and only cut off the very top of egg.
Once I had 12 I made 2 small holes in the bottom of each washed and dry egg shell.
then I filed each one with a good potting soil mix and placed back in a egg carton tray.

I added the seeds, In this case Coriander / Cilantro and lightly watered.
I placed the carton with eggshells in a tray and filled with water so it could self wick and keep moist.
